Hallery Matson

I am a portait and water based photographer who bounces around the East Coast! I was born and raised in Miami, FL along side my 4 sisters and now live in Charleston, SC and spend my summers in Nantucket. I have always loved photography and got my first camera when I was 14. Since then, I have been non stop! I began my small business during high school, photographing families and small events. I went on to major in Art with a focus in photography at Sewanee: The University of the South and with that, my business grew. I have experience in portraiture, events, brands, surf and underwater photography, print making, and film.

I love connecting with my clients and producing work that they will keep for the rest of their lives. I focus my time between family photos and brand work. I have always loved working with kids and have found the most joy in volunteering my photography services with the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston, providing free photo sessions to families with children in the hospital. I also love working with my underwater housing- whether that be with brands, family portraits shot underwater, or when I volunteer with Big Cypress National Preserve in the Florida Everglades.

I feel most at peace when I am in the water with my camera. Whether that is photographing boats or a family session, I love getting to produce custom works of fine art.

I have traveled all over the world with my cameras. From sailing through the Abacos with my Olympus to following a cowboy in Costa Rica with my Sony to photographing monks in a temple in Nepal. I love adventure and capturing far away moments!

My style is best described as classic mixed with editorial. I aim to capture those intimate moments that not only look beautiful in a frame but also give you a memory to cherish forever.
